Answers

1.  I just found out that I am pregnant and don’t know what to do.  Can you help?
Yes.  The North Side Life Care Center is a safe place where women can make life affirming decisions for themselves and their babies. We know that pregnancy, both planned and unplanned, can be scary.  We can talk through your questions, fears, hopes and dreams for yourself and your baby.

2.  Do you do abortions?
We do not do abortions or refer for them.  We know that abortions hurt both moms and babies.  We have never had a woman come into the center and say “I wish I never had this baby.”  We do frequently hear women say “I wish I had never had an abortion.”  Many women do not really want an abortion, but their life circumstances make it seem impossible to have a child. Issues such as no medical insurance, no emotional or financial support from the baby’s dad, having no place to live if they continue with the pregnancy, fear of being a mom, or too young to be a mom are all issues that have solutions.  We are happy to help you find those solutions.

3.  Do you do pregnancy tests?
Yes.  We do a urine test if your period is at least 1 day late.  Call for an appointment at 612-522-6589.

4.  Do you do ultrasounds?
Yes.  We schedule non-diagnostic ultrasounds when you are between 10 and 18 weeks pregnant.  The purpose of the ultrasound is to confirm your pregnancy and to give you an accurate due date.  You will be able to watch your baby on the ultrasound screen and will be given pictures to take home. You need to have a positive proof of pregnancy in writing from another clinic or pregnancy help center, or a positive pregnancy test here at North Side before we can schedule an ultrasound.

5.  Can you help me pay my rent?
We work with Cradle of Hope and Life Fund to help women who are pregnant, have medical issues with their pregnancies, and have a doctor’s written order to cut down on their hours or quit their jobs.  We also help women who have a baby under 3 months old, are on unpaid maternity leave and plan on going back to work.  There are other criteria that need to be met.   Call for a telephone prescreen.

6.  Do you take donations?
Yes.  We take freshly washed, gently used baby clothes from size newborn to size 6 and freshly washed maternity clothes in good condition.  We also take used baby equipment such as strollers, cribs, and toys that are clean, up to date and in good condition.  We cannot take used car seats or used stuffed animals.

7.  Can I be tested for STD’s there?
No. However, we can suggest other places to go for testing.

8.  Do you provide birth control?
No. Artificial methods of birth control have many risks and side effects. Many of them also cause early abortions.  We recommend natural family planning for those who are married and chastity for those who are not married.

9.  Do you have formula, cribs or other baby supplies?
Yes.  We have a clothes closet with gently used clothes.  You may call for an appointment to get clothes, diapers and formula if you live in our service area. If you are looking for a crib, car seat or other baby equipment, or would like new clothes for your baby, you may participate in our Small Steps Program.  Again, you must live within our service area.

10.  How do I sign up?
All programs and services require appointments.  You also need to show a photo ID, proof of address, and have a document with your child’s name and birthday. Call for an appointment at 612-522-6589.
